| Ash Marshall 1968-70 |
| Ash Marshall purchased the car from Leland Kolb in 1968 and promptly shipped it to Australia. Marshall's sponsor Amoco came up with the name "Scorcher", a legend was born. Scorcher"s debut meeting was in November 1968 at Surfers Paradise. The next race was at Calder Park on 1st December but disaster struck when steering failure caused the car to impact the guard rail in the braking area all but destroying the beautiful bodywork. All was not lost the chassis was quickly repaired and wheelbase extended and Scorcher returned back to racing minus front bodywork on the 5th January 1969. Marshall embarked on a gruelling racing schedule that saw him racing 3 meeting every month. On 1st February 1969 Marshall made history by becoming the first Australian to break to 200mph barrier. Marshall raced Scorcher at 55 meetings from November 1968 to November 1970 and travelled to tracks like Castlereagh, Calder, Surfers Paradise, Townsville and Ravenswood. Marshall's best performance in the car was an ET of 7.34secs and a best speed of 214.28mph. |
